In the late 1940s, Ernie Cannon established a remote fishing camp on Longboat Key, a southwest Florida barrier island with only dirt roads and a single bridge mainland, where wild hogs and rattlesnakes outnumbered people. In the 1950s, Paul Miller, moved to southwest Florida with his wife, Dorothy, and their two young children. In 1955, on a handshake, he purchased Cannons from Ernie Cannon. After returning home from college in the 1970s, David purchased Cannons from his father. For 70 years Cannon has systematically passed through loving hands.
In 1981, Richard Ingman founded Gasparilla Marine Sales in picturesque Southwest Florida at the location known today as Gasparilla Marina. In 1991, the business added a location in Port Charlotte and became Ingman Marine. Today, with locations in Port Charlotte, Placida, and Sarasota Ingman Marine is widely recognized as one of the most knowledgeable and well-respected full service marine dealerships in Florida.
This brings us into 2025, where David and Lucile sold the business to Ingman Marine. The 4-generation family owned, Ingman Marine, is looking forward to many long years on Longboat Key, keeping Cannons Marina the great epicenter for marine lovers that it has been for the last 70 years.
